 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

Nigerian Police Arrest Five-Member Kidnap Gang, Recover Over N4Million Out Of N5Million Ransom Paid In Adamawa

The Nigeria Police have arrested members of a five-man notorious kidnap gang terrorising the northern axis of Adamawa state

The police also recovered N4,079,000, which was part of money paid as a ransom to the kidnap gang to secure the release of an eight-year-old Mustapha Aliyu Fadil, in Mubi, SaharaReporters has learnt.
 
The spokesperson for the Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrests and cash recovery to SaharaReporters on Friday.

He said, "Further to the Command's renewed commitment to enhance proactive strategies in crime fighting, the Command has again on the 9/10/2022, disconnected a crime network connecting a syndicate of Five in Mubi North and South Local Government Areas respectively.
 
"The operation, which was carried out by the Command's operatives attached to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), yielded positive result as the sum of Four Million, Seventy-Nine Thousand Naira cash out of the sum of Five Million Naira, paid as ransom was recovered.
 
"The outcome of this success followed a report received about the kidnapping of an 8-year-old Mustapha Aliyu Fadil in Mubi and took him to Barassa Hotel at Maraba Mubi.
 
"Interestingly, after receiving the report, the Command promptly designed an Intelligence-led driven strategy and luckily apprehended the following Suspects.
 
"(1) Zaiyat Adamu, 19 years, a resident of Tashan Gella,Mubi South Local Government Area.
 
"(2) Abdulrahman Abubakar 31 years, a resident of Shagari Low-cost, Mubi North Local Government
 
"(3) Haruna Yakubu, 21 years, a resident of Kaban ward, Mubi North Local Government Area.
 
"(4) Abubakar Muhammed, 20 years, a resident of Angwan Ba-talaka, Mubi North, Local Government Area.
 
"(5) Isa Musa 21 years, a resident of Angwan Ba-talaka Mubi North, Local Government Area.
 
"The Suspects criminally conspired and whisked away their victim where they held him for two days and two nights until when a ransom of Five Million (naira) as demanded was paid to them before releasing their victim.”
 
"The Commissioner of Police, CP SK Akande, while commending the OC SIB and his men for disconnecting the crime network and professional conduct displayed; however, directed the Officers and Men to sustain the tempo as a strategy to checkmating crimes and criminals in and around the State.
 
"The CP calls on the populace to always inform the police on the whereabouts of Criminals and their hideouts, and especially those with questionable character," he added.
