 FG ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF OWERRI AIRPORT FOR RUNWAY REHABILITATION  The  Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the temporary closure of the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, to allow for major runway rehabilitation works. A statement by the  Minister says the closure has become necessary to improve safety and operational efficiency at the airport, ahead of the Christmas travel season. It adds that the rehabilitation project is a joint partnership between the Federal Government and the Imo State Government, and will involve repairs to deteriorated sections of the runway, treatment of surface cracks, filling of potholes, resurfacing, and extension works to accommodate larger aircraft. The Minister disclosed that he had earlier spoken with the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, who, along with other critical stakeholders in the South-East, agreed on the need for the temporary closure. Peter Obi Reacts As LP Zonal Chairman Dies In Kaduna Auto Crash

Labour Party Chairman, Peter Obi, has mourned the passing of one of the party’s Zonal Chairmen in Kaduna State, Mallam Lawal Garba.

Garba lost his life in a fatal auto crash along the Kaduna-Zaria road on Monday.

He was on his way back from the party’s engagement with Northern stakeholders in Arewa House, Kaduna, on Monday.

Reacting, Peter Obi in a tweet on Tuesday expressed shock over his death and prayed that his soul rests in peace.

”I’m shocked by the news of the sudden and tragic death of Mallam Lawal Garba last night in a fatal vehicular accident. Mallam Garba was in attendance at the Arewa House interactive session.

”His death is a huge loss to his family, the Labour Party family in Kaduna State and the Kaduna people.

”I pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and that God Almighty will grant his family the fortitude to bear this huge loss.”
