WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY 2026: FIRST LADY OLUREMI TINUBU URGES NIGERIANS TO PROTECT RIGHTS AND DIGNITY OF THE AGED First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to do more towards protecting the dignity, rights, safety, and wellbeing of senior citizens, whose wisdom, sacrifices, and contributions have helped shape our society. In her message marking the World Elders Abuse Awareness Day 2026 with the theme “Beyond Awareness: Making Elder Abuse Prevention Work,” the First Lady notes that elderly citizens deserve to be respected, protected, and cared for, rather than leave them to endure physical, emotional, financial, and psychological abuse. She says as population ages and the challenges of aging begin to emerge, the society must strive to honour and care for the elderly citizens by strengthening systems of care, community support and social protection to ensure that no older person is left vulnerable or abandoned.
