 Fubara, lawmakers feud throws Rivers into turmoil • Three pro-governor legislators elect Speaker • Council chiefs, govt disagree over withheld allocation The crisis in Rivers State took a turn for the worse yesterday. Three members of the House of Assembly loyal to Governor Siminialayi Fubara declared themselves as the authentic House of Assembly members. They elected one of them, Victor Oko-Jumbo, representing Bonny Constituency, as Speaker. This follows the governor’s declaration of 27 lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as illegitimate. The election of Oko-Jumbo as speaker took place at about 10 am. TWO MEN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY DUPING WOMAN THE SUM OF N7.5 MILLION IN IKORODU


The Men of Lagos State Police Command has arrested two men who duped a woman the sum of N7.5million under the disguise of providing spiritual help.

The Lagos State Police Command Spokesman, Sp Benjamin Hundeyin captioned the it as follows: 
"In Ikorodu, these two duped a woman to the tune of N7.5m under the guise of providing ‘spiritual help.’ She realized the fraud and approached the police. They were apprehended when they arranged to get another batch of funds from her. Investigation is ongoing".

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Namtira Bwala has threatened to file a lawsuit against the school authorities if her abusers are not punished within 48 hours. In a letter drafted by her lawyers, Deji Adeyanju and Co, Namtira asked the school authorities to immediately investigate and pronounce the stiffest punishments in the student’s rule book on Ms.Maryam Hassan, Miss Faliya, and nine other students who bullied her.
