 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. A 72 YEAR OLD MAN KILLS 5 PEOPLE BEFORE TAKING HIS OWN LIFE IN PEMBA DISTRICT.


A 72 year old man of Majata village in Hamaundu Chiefdom in Pemba District has killed his enstranged wife and 4 others after he set ablaze a house they were in and shot those who came to the rescue, leaving 3 people battle for the lives following serious injuries.

Jethro Makondo who is also Headman in the Chiefdom later pulled the trigger on himself adding to the number of those he killed.

Preliminary investigations by Radio Chikuni News crew that rushed to the scene indicate that late Mr. Makondo was infuriated by his wife's refusal to get back to her  matrimonial home following the couple's misunderstandings which resulted in the husband tying wires to the house the wife was living in and sprayed it with petrol before setting it ablaze.

Mr. Makondo is reported to have gone on rampage shooting neighbors who wanted to rescue those in the house.

The incident happened around 02hrs today 22 November 2022 and bodies of the deceased were deposited at Monze Mission Hospital Mortuary while survivors are receiving treatment at the same facility

Among the dead is a 12 year Grade 9 pupil at Maambo Primary School who was scheduled for examination this week.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Chikuni News, the son to the deceased,Nchimunya Makondo confirmed the development that his father later took his life.

Meanwhile, Chief Hamaundu's Representative Kishent  Hamungomo is shocked over the bizarre occurrence, recalling that the late headman was a vibrant leader who helped settle people's issues in an amicable manner and his latest behavior was strange.

Police are yet to issue a statement as they managed to visit the crime scene and collected the bodies of the deceased.
