 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ACTDA Demolishes Illegal Structures In Awka, Okpuno,  Vows To Continue Onslaught Against Illegal Developers



Officers of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) in company of Anambra Joint Enforcement Team (ANJET), Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA BRIGADE), various Security Agencies among others have demolished an illegal biulding blocking a road at Okpuno and leveled an ongoing building under  construction at Agu-Awka, all in Awka South Local Government Area. 

They also marked some illegal structures within the enviroment for immediate removal.

Speaking to the ABS shortly after the exercise, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA, Mr Ossy Onuko who monitored the exercise regretted the level of developmental impunity going on in the society, especially in Awka Capital Territory.

Mr. Onuko who said that for Anambra to become fulfill the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has promised Ndi Anambra, residents of the state must learn how to abide by the laws governing the state and the capital city.

He revealed that the land in Agu-Awka which his team levelled an ongoing building under construction was acquired by a church, but some irates youths in connivance with disgruntled elements chased them away and resold the same land, an abnormally he noted would not stand under his watch.

The ACTDA boss advised all developers within the capital territory to always visit the agency to get right approvals before commencing any construction to avoid unnecessary demolitions.

He made it clear that he will continue to implement the mission and vision of ACTDA at all times to be intandem with the developmental agenda of Governor Soludo and warned unscrupulous developers and land grabbers to leave the city or be ready to face the consequences of their actions.

At every demolition site, the team were being applauded by the residents and commuters for restoring sanity and discipline in Awka Capital Territory.
