 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. SOUTH AFRICA: TWO MEN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY ATTEMPTING TO KILL THEIR 68 YEAR OLD FATHER. (PHOTO).





NELSPRUIT - Two male suspects aged 25 and 27 have been arrested for allegedly attempting to kill their 68 year old father at Maviljan Trust outside Bushbuckridge.

According to information, it's alleged that the victim was asleep last night, Monday 28 November 2022 at about 22:30 in his house, when he heard a knock from his bedroom door. It is further alleged that one of his son indicated to him that he was bringing back a key. Instead of opening the door, the father only opened a window to receive the key and that was when he met hail of bullets, hitting him on the thigh. Three people outside and two of them were allegedly his own sons. He fortunately managed to call the police and the medical personnel who came to his rescue. The victim was transported to hospital for medical treatment.

An attempted murder case was opened and the Police at Bushbuckridge immediately began with their investigation which resulted in both suspects (the victim's sons) arrested hence they are expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate's Court today, Tuesday 29 November 2022 facing the said charges. The motive behind the attack is yet to be established.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has strongly condemned the acts of violence amongst members of the same families. The General further voiced out a serious concern regarding such similar incidents of domestic violence in the society.
