 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Abducted man found dead on Christmas day in Anambra

A young man allegedly abducted near a hotel in Okpuno, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been found dead. The deceased, simply identified as Ifeanyi, hailed from Awgbu, Orumba North Local Government Area.

His body was found in Awka, the state capital on Christmas day.

He was abducted on Friday along Geneva Hotel road.

A friend of the deceased, Ebuka Okoye, posted his photograph on his Facebook wall.

He blamed the growing insecurity in the state.

The post read: “One death too many!!! This sweet soul was kidnapped in the heart of the state capital on Friday, and just yesterday evening, his lifeless body was seen by the roadside.

“If such a barbaric outing can take place in the capital city of the state, without any intelligence as regards hunting the perpetrators of this crime down, then I can confidently tell you that no person is safe down there.”

Also, one Naeche Okoye who described the deceased as his younger brother, said: “Ifeanyi my junior brother continue resting in peace till we meet to part no more Amen… Awgbu Ebenese lost one of his honest son, very painful.”

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the case was cult-related as there were marks of axe cuts on the deceased body.

He said the body has been taken to the morgue, adding that investigations have commenced.

“It’s a pure case of murder and is still under investigation. 

“We urge the witnesses where the dead body was found to volunteer information that will support the ongoing investigation.

The deceased who is said to be an indigene of Awgbu, a community in Orumba North Local Government Area was abducted at Okpuno, close to Geneva Hotel, and whisked away by his abductors.

“Meanwhile, the body has been recovered and deposited in the morgue,” he said.
