OVER 25 MILLION PHONES STOLEN IN ONE YEAR- FG. (PHOTO).

 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Court Sentences Two To Death By Hanging For The Murder Of Radio Nigeria Staff In Port Harcourt

A Degema High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has convicted and sentenced to death two suspects Godwin Udoh and Wisdom Udoh for the murder of one miss Oluchi Okorie, a staff of Radio Nigeria, Purity FM.Abakaliki.


The judge ,Justice Okogbule Gbasam, 

 in his judgement sentenced the two defendants to death by hanging.


Justice Gbasam who based his judgement on the confessional statement made by the defendants to the police ,said from the evidence presented to the court it was clear that the defendants were the last persons with the deceased before the sad incident.


The two defendants who are natives of Akwa  Ibom State were said to have picked late Miss Okorie along East West road on the 10th of April 2015 on her way from Abakiliki in Ebonyi state  to visit her sister in PortHarcourt.


The 1st defendant Godwin Udoh was said to have pushed out Miss Okorie from a moving vehicle along Tai local government area of Rivers State that led to her death.


Speaking to our Correspondent outside the court room Principal State Counsel, Mr. Deinma Tamuno-Opubo of the Department of Public Prosecutions, Rivers State Ministry of Justice, said with respect to the death of the deceased justice has been served.


Mr. Tamuno-Opubo said the judgement will serve as deterrent to persons who takes lives of others at will.


Meanwhile, Counsels to the two defendants declined comment on the judgement.
