 UN says 53 Congolese refugees have died in Burundi More than 50 refugees fleeing fighting in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have died in neighbouring Burundi, the United Nations Refugee Agency told Reuters late on Friday. Of a total 53 deaths recorded, 25 people died due to a cholera outbreak, the agency said, while six others died from anemia and other complications related to malnutrition, it said. The U.N. said it was working with the health ministry and other partners to investigate the cause of the other deaths. More than 100,000 Congolese have sought refuge in Burundi since fighting near the border intensified in early December and rebels seized the town of Uvira, the UNHCR said. Jean Jacques Purusi, governor of South Kivu province where Uvira is located, described the situation in Burundi as "misery" and "a crisis completely forgotten by the international community and media." DAY 1 - OPENING CEREMONY OF PPROs' CONFERENCE, IBADAN 2022.


The annual Conference for Police Public Relations Officers' commenced in Ibadan today December 12, 2022 at Kakanfo Inn and Conference Center, Ibadan Oyo State. The 4-day event which brings together Police spokespersons from the 17 Police Zonal Commands, 36 State Commands and the FCT, was declared open by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed CON who was represented by Mr. Ididapo Okunnu, Director of Production, Publication, and Documentation, Ministry of Information and Culture.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba psc (+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR, was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID) and coordinating DIG for the South-West, DIG Kokumo Bababunde Johnson, mni. The conference is centered around strengthening strategic communication towards Police reforms, Security and Integrity of 2023 General Elections.
