 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity. Dubai Police seal 91 Flats in Crackdown on Unlicensed Massage Services in 2022
 
The Dubai Police General Command issued a new warning urging the public against seeking services from unlicensed massage centres, which poses serious threats, including extortion and murder.
 
Major General Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, Director of the General Department of Criminal, confirmed that Dubai Police had launched several campaigns to combat this illegal activity by raising public awareness of the centres' harmful services, tracking down locations and operators of such unlicensed businesses, as well as arresting distributors of massage cards on vehicles.  He explained that this year Dubai Police, in coordination with strategic partners, have sealed 91 flats for violating the law and offering unlicensed services.

The director of Dubai CID reaffirmed that ensuring public safety is a shared responsibility between the Dubai Police and community members.
 
"Dial 901 or use 'Police Eye' service via Dubai Police smart App to report any suspicious, shady and illegal activities, including these unlicensed centres and their promotors," he urged.
 
Al Jallaf further noted that licensed massage centres are registered with Dubai Economic and Tourism, and whoever wishes to seek their services can verify that by simply contacting the concerned entities.
