Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing. GOV. UZODIMMA EMPOWERS 25,000 IMO STATE VULNERABLE PERSONS


In a bid to expand and deepen the Shared Prosperity Agenda, the Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has matched words with action with the empowerment of 25,000 poor and vulnerable Imo citizens through a conditional cash transfer. 

Governor Uzodimma in his address at Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square, Owerri, disclosed that the conditional cash transfer is not for payback but a grant for their upkeep to help stimulate the state's economy against the impacts of Covid 19 and banditry.

According to the Governor, "assisting the poor and vulnerable in our society is also at the core of the shared prosperity agenda of this administration. We are poised to deliver Imo State from hardship and poverty".

The empowerment of the 25,000 Imolites was made under the IMO CARES PROGRAM which is an offshoot of the Federal Government NG-CARES program. 

The conditional cash transfer will be given in 2 tranches, this month December and next month.
