 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity. Kaduna Teachers To Protest On Monday Over Unpaid Salary

The newly recruited secondary teachers by Kaduna state government are set to stage a peaceful protest on Monday 12th December 2022.

According to them, the protest is as a result of the seven months salaries they are owed by the state government under Governor Nasiru El-Rufai.

Recall that the teachers were handed letters of offer of provisional appointments on 19th July, 2021.

According to them, they had to wait until 17th May, 2022 before they were deployed. Since their deployment, the government has not paid them their salaries despite the high cost of living the country is currently facing, they said. 

They are calling on all the teachers concerned to converge at the state secretariat, ministry of education on Monday 12th December, 2022 to demand for justice for their unpaid seven months salaries.

Over four thousand newly recruited teachers are expected to take part in the protest, they said.
