 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. President Bazum decorates Gov. Buni with National Honour Award

His Excellency the Executive Governor of Yobe state Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, was today decorated with a Niger Republic National Honour in Niamey.

Decorating the Governor with the Honour of 'Commandeur dans l'ordre du merite du Niger', President Mohamed Bazum, said the Honour was in recognition of Governor Buni's contribution to bilateral, economic and social relationship between Nigeria and Niger Republic. 

Bazum said the award has placed Governor Buni in a position of an ambassador who will strengthen relationship between the two countries.

Governor Buni said he is encouraged to do more by the National Honour awarded to him.

"This National Honour awarded to me, will spur me to do more in the interests of the two countries.

"Yobe state shares international borders with Niger Republic, therefore, we will strengthen peace and peaceful coexistence, and economic prosperity among the border communities of the two countries" Gov. Buni said.

Governor Buni is receiving the second National Honours award this year after Nigeria's Commander of the Order of the Niger CON, in October.

The governor was accompanied to Niger Republic by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, members of the national and state legislature, the state executive Council, political associates, and thousands of well wishers across the country.
