  President Bola Tinubu has identified the creative economy as a pivotal element of his administration’s economic diversification agenda, reaffirming his commitment to positioning Nigeria’s creative sector as a driving force for global influence. The President stated this at the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja. President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said the carnival reaffirms the essence of who Nigerians are—”a people of culture, a people of art, a people of colour, and a people of shared values”. Ohanaeze President-General, Prof George Obiozor, reported dead

President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof George Obiozor, has been reported dead, though the development has yet to be confirmed.

News of his purported death surfaced on social media this Tuesday morning, December 27, 2022, making News Express to embark on a frantic effort to confirm his welfare.

While some of the close sources contacted claimed the news to be true, others chose not to comment.

However, News Express was able to confirm that the 80 years old retired diplomat from Awo-Omanma in the Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State has been sick for a while and out of circulation.

One close source said: “You know he has been sick. On Saturday, the Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo called to relay the instructions of the PG on the Simon Ekpa situation.

So, right now, I have no idea of the true position.”

Born on August 15, 1942, Prof. Obiozor CON was formerly the Nigerian Ambassador to the United States. He studied in Nigeria and the US, crowning it with a Ph.D. in International Affairs from Columbia University.

Prof. Obiozor was elected President-General of Ohanaeze, the apex Igbo organisation, in early January 2021.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
