 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ACTDA Boss, Onuko Cautions Developers Against Building Without Approval




The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Mr. Ossy Onuko has cautioned land developers within the capital territory not to embark on any construction without getting appropriate approvals from the agency.


Mr. Onuko who stated this while speaking to the ABS in his office in Awka noted that ACTDA will not hesitate to remove any building that was built without approval.


He maintained that the agency under his watch will continue to deliver on the mandate envisaged before creating it and made it clear that no amount of pressure from any quarter will make ACTDA to compromise.


Mr. Onuko equally advised those trading along roads within the jurisdiction of the agency to stop forthwith or face the wrath of ACTDA, even as he warned those pasting posters on the flyovers in Awka to desist from such ugly behaviour.


According to the ACTDA Managing Director, his team will continue with all the Projects they embarked upon last year like operation zero potholes, clean and green initiative, removal of illegal structures among others.


The ACTDA Managing Director urged Ndi Anambra to keep supporting the Governor Chukwuma Soludo led administration for a prosperous and liveable homeland.


He further warned all the staff of the agency to always be professional in the discharge of their duties as anyone found wanting under any guise would be penalized accordingly to serve as a deterrent to others.
