 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Gunmen open fire at Anambra residents, kill four

Four persons, including a woman,.were on Tuesday killed by hoodlums in Eziani in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The yet-to-be-identified deceased lost their lives during an indiscriminate shooting by the miscreants armed with Ak47.

The Nation gathered that the hoodlums immediately took to their heels, leaving the deceased in the pool of their blood.

Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga said the unidentified lifeless bodies were recovered during Police/military operations in the area.

He said the bodies have been deposited in the morgue.

He said: “Police/military operations have been intensified in Ihiala and its neighboring town as operatives responded to a distress call in the early hours of today 10/1/2023 at Nzomiwu Street, Eziani, Ihiala, recovered yet unidentified lifeless bodies, three males and one female at the scene.

“Preliminary information reveals that the criminal elements armed with Ak47, started shooting indiscriminately and unprovoked. 

“Unfortunately, bullets hit four unarmed civil populace. The bodies have been deposited in the morgue.”
