 NUT Protest : Wike Warns Against Politicising Insecurity The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned against politicising insecurity amid protests by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, FCT wing, over the killing and abduction of school staff and children in Oyo State. Teachers stormed the FCTA Secretariat in Abuja to condemn the killing of Michael Oyedokun and to demand the release of abducted pupils and teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area. The FCT minister addressed the protesters on Tuesday, saying the federal government is on its toes working to secure the rescue of the schoolchildren and their teachers. Wike urged protesters to avoid turning the tragedy into a political issue and to give security efforts time to produce results. UPDATE: SENATE CONFIRMED SOLOMON ARASE AS THE NEW CHAIRMAN OF POLICE SERVICE COMMISSION. (PHOTO).#CONGRATULATIONS




 The Senate has  confirmed the appointment of the former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase (Rtd) as the new Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC )


The red Chamber confirmed the former police boss after scaling through the screening hurdles by Senate Committee on Police Affairs headed by Senator Jika Halliru representing Bauchi Central 


Presenting the report of the committee during plenary in Abuja, Senator Halliru said Arase performed credibly well during the screening exercise and proved that he can lead the Police Service Commission (PSC ) as its Chairman. 


The Senate after adopting the report unanimously confirmed Solomon Arase as a substantive Chairman of the Police Service Commission.


It would be recalled  President Muhammadu Buhari in a letter to the Senate on Tuesday which was read on the floor of the upper legislative Chamber by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan asked the Senate to consider and screen the nominee for the post of Chairman, Police service Commission.


Buhari said the appointment is by the provision of section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
