 Peter Obi Demands Justice for 15-Year-Old Held Without Trial for Over Three Months Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, has called for justice in the case of 15-year-old Yusuf Alabi, who has been detained at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for over three months without trial. Alabi, who captured national attention in 2023 after standing boldly in front of Obi’s convoy during a campaign rally in Lagos—an image that went viral as a symbol of youthful hope—remains in custody despite his first court appearance in March. In a statement posted on his official X handle Tuesday night, Obi voiced alarm over the teenager’s prolonged detention and urged authorities to adhere to the rule of law. “I was made aware of the predicament of a young boy named Quadri Yusuf Alabi, who has been detained for over three months without trial, appeared in court for the first time in March, and still remains held in custody,” Obi wrote. Alleged criminalities, human rights abuses by Anambra police: Gov  Soludo  Directs Attorney general  to review  files  on alligations of commission of offences handled by RRS

Governor Chukwuma Soludo, reacted to several media reports on alleged criminalities involving some police officers in Zone 13 Headquarters Ukpo, Anambra State and the alleged human right abuses by some officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, Anambra State Police command respectively.


A statement issued by the chief press secretary to the governor Mr Christian Aburime said Preliminary inquiry has revealed that the Inspector General of Police had already set up a Special Investigation Panel to investigate the allegations .


Governor Soludo commends the Inspector General of Police for that timely intervention pointing out that, it has become imperative in the light of the above to await the outcome of the investigations which is expected soonest. 


Governor Soludo wishes to assure the entire public that the government is closely monitoring the situation and would ensure that justice is done at the end of the day if anyone is found culpable. 


Meanwhile, the Governor  has requested the Attorney General of Anambra State to immediately call for, and review all the files of cases on allegation of commision of offences created by the laws of  Anambra State, being handled by the said RRS. 


This according to him will enable the Attorney General give such directions or take such necessary legal actions in line with section 211 of the Constitution and sections 148, 149 and 150 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Anambra State 2022.


He therefore appeal to the people of the State and the entire public to remain calm and allow the law take its due course while assuring Ndi Anambra that  his administration has zero tolerance for criminality and would always allow the rule of law to reign supreme at all times while justice must be given to those who deserve it.
