ASSOCIATION OF TEACHERS OF YORUBA LANGUAGE COMMISSIONS NEW SECRETARIAT
The Association of Teachers of Yoruba Language and Culture in Lagos State, popularly known as Egbe Akomolede ati Asa Yoruba, has commissioned its new Secretariat.
Welcoming dignitaries and members of the association to the commissioning ceremony held recently at Baptist Academy School premises, Obanikoro, Lagos, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye said Egbe Akomolede ati Asa Yoruba is not only limited to Lagos State but has branches nationwide and has helped bring Yoruba Language teachers together as one towards promoting the Yoruba Culture.
Adekanye said the Akomolede Secretariat will help members from the Six Education Districts in Lagos have a befitting place to assemble where various Yoruba artefacts would be showcased.
While commending the Commissioner of Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo for her motherly role and impact in making sure the state’s education sector keeps improving, the TG/PS commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his continuous contribution to the education sector of the State and for giving teachers improved welfare package.
Adekanye said, "I want to also applaud Hon. Ademorin Kuye representing Shomolu Federal Consistency at the Federal House of Representatives, who facilitated the construction of the Secretariat project, for his continuous support in the district. This project looked like a big task as we usually move from one location to the other for our meetings and God used the Honourable to facilitate the project. It was just a phone call and he came through for us. We the members of Akomolede really appreciate your effort, sir”.
Hon. Ademorin Kuye, while commissioning the Secretariat, said he was impressed with the association and applauded the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of the District for her impact in making the project a reality.
He encouraged members of the association to keep promoting the Yoruba culture and traditions, making sure students are kept informed while appreciating the Yoruba Language and Culture.
In his remarks, the Lagos State Chairman of the Association, Prince Adeyemi Aderemi said, "I am glad the Akomolede group finally has a Secretariat. The essence of the group is to promote and preserve our language, culture and the heritage of Yoruba land as a whole. Many parents don’t speak their native languages to their children at home, and that is why we are trying our best as Yoruba teachers to speak the language and make them see the beauty of our culture and traditions".
An elder of the Association in Lagos, Mr. Olasunkanmi Tella equally commended Honourable Kuye and the TG/PS for the beautiful new Secretariat, encouraging members to use the new edifice effectively.
The high point of the commissioning was the conferment of the title of "Agba Akin Egbe Akomolede ati Asa Yoruba” on Honourable Ademorin Kuye.
The construction of the Ultra-modern Hall/Secretariat was facilitated by Honourable Kuye in conjunction with Lagos State Education District II.
