 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. EFCC Docks Yahoo 'Porn star’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abuja Zonal Command, today, February 16, 2023 arraigned one Emmanuel Bassey before Justice J.A Aina of the FCT High Court, Kuje on one count charge bordering personation.

The charge reads, “that you, Emmanuel Bassey (aka Natasha) sometime in 2022 at Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, through a platform called Reddit cheats by pretending to be a porn star named Natasha, in that regard you pose as female to trick your victims, which delivered to you the sum of $300 (Three Hundred Dollars) and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 321 and 322 of the Penal Code Act, Laws of the Federation (Abuja) 1990”. 

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and was offered bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum who must not be less than a Grade Level 10 officer in the civil service.

Justice Aina remanded the defendant at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of bail conditions, and adjourned the matter till April 17, 2023 for commencement of trial.
