 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter. Police Ban Celebrations, Rallies By Supporters Of Political Parties In Kaduna

The police in Kaduna State have announced a ban on celebrations or rallies by supporters of political parties in the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections.

The ban was contained in a statement on Wednesday, in Kaduna, by DSP Mohammed Jalige, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the command.

”All forms of celebrations and rallies by political party supporters for or against winners/losers of the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections has been banned in the state.

”Any deliberate act to violate the ban or cause breakdown of law and order under whatever guise would not be tolerated, as the full wrath of the law would be bought to bare,” the police said.

Jalige said the command has deployed and directed security agencies to ensure full enforcement.

“All persons with intent to violate the order are warned to desist from that, as the command in collaboration with other sister agencies are fully prepared to deal decisively with such persons in accordance with extant laws.”
