 Drones hit east Congo's biggest city, killing French aid worker, rebels and UN say Drone strikes hit Goma in east Congo ​on Wednesday, killing at least three people including a French aid worker, the ‌first such attack in the city since AFC/M23 rebels seized it last year, according to the group and the U.N. The AFC/M23 blamed the attack on the Congolese army, saying in a post on X that Kinshasa ​had launched drones against a densely populated urban area in the lakeside city. A senior official for U.N. children's agency UNICEF told Reuters ​that one of its employees, a French national, was killed. French President Emmanuel Macron and Hadja Lahbib, ​European Commissioner for equality, preparedness and crisis management, condemned the attack in posts on X, calling for respect for international humanitarian law and saying aid workers must never be targeted. Almajiri found dead in Jigawa, with gorged eye

Police in Jigawa recovered the corpse of a 16-year old “Almajiri” in Kiyawa Local Government Area of the state on Friday.

Assailants had gorged one of his eyes before the police arrived.

Police spokesman in the state, DSP Lawan Shiisu, stated on Friday that the Islamic knowledge teacher of the deceased, Malam Muhammad Mustafa, reported the matter to the police.

“The complainant reported that one of his students, aged 16, went to a nearby bush to fetch firewood at about 8 a.m. on Friday, but did not return home.

“The student was later found in a pool of his own blood with one of his eyes removed,” he stated.

Shiisu added that the boy was taken to Dutse General Hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

He stated also that a manhunt had started for the assailants.
