 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken. Court Restrains ABSIEC From Conducting LGA Elections in Abia

The Abia State Local Government election which is billed to hold on the 19th of May 2023, has suffered a setback as an order restraining Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) from organizing the said election has been granted.


Based on facts available to Ikoronews Honorable Justice Benson C. Anya of the Abia State High Court Arochukwu Division granted the order in a suit filed by Engr. Nwabueze Onwuneme (Suit No: HAR /8/2023) with Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa, Attorney General of Abia State, and Governor of Abia State as defendants.


The order which was granted on the 23rd of March 2023, restrained ABSIEC from organizing or conducting any election and restrained ABSIEC from acting on any election timetable or programme pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.


The suit was then adjourned to the 23rd of April 2023 for the motion on notice.
