Anambra State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo has ordered members of Mgbakwu women union to organize a fresh election following complaints by some members of the association that the elected executives should step down.

This she said in her office in Awka when the women group brought the matter to her.

Hon Obinabo while admonishing the women to carry out the election as soon as possible warned that if the election is not properly done, her ministry will have to appoint new leadership for them hence the need for all parties involved to abide by the rules and regulations of the ministry in conducting the election.

The Women and Social Welfare boss at the same time urged the women not to allow external bodies interfere in their affairs but rather give each other the needed support in order to produce credible executives for peace and unity in the community.

Hon Obinabo went further to warn those causing disunity amongst the women to desist forthwith or face the consequences.

Earlier, the present woman president of Mgbakwu Lolo Ngozi Nwankwo noted that their constitution allows for two term if reelected but was surprised when opposition sprung up after her reelection thereby causing division amongst the women meanwhile her vice president Mrs Christiana Ezeudu who led the opposition faction was of the opinion that Lolo Nwankwo should not be reelected rather should step down for the person whose turn it is since the leadership position is rotational amongst the villages in their communities.

Mgbakwu women had earlier protested peacefully at the ministry of Women and Social Welfare but was received by the Director, Women Affairs of the ministry on behalf of the Commissioner.
