  NBC bans Eedris Abdulkareem’s protest song ‘Tell Your Papa’ from radio, TV The National Broadcasting Commission has barred Nigerian radio and television stations from airing the trending song “Tell Your Papa” by veteran rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem, citing its “objectionable nature.” In a memo dated April 9, 2025 and issued by the Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, Susan Obi, the commission declared the track Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB) under Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. This section prohibits content deemed inappropriate, offensive, or in breach of public decency from being aired on Nigerian broadcast platforms. According to the NBC, while the song has gained momentum across social media platforms, its lyrical content fails to meet the standards of responsible broadcasting. Eminent Nigerian patriots are slated to be in Enugu today for the second edition of ‘Handshake Across Nigeria”- a meeting intended to foster national unity.

Chairman of South East Governors’ Forum (SEGF), Chief David Umahi of Ebonyi State would lead his colleagues from the zone; Governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Chukwuma Soludo (Anambra), Hope Uzodimma (Imo) and the chief host, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), to the programme.

Details from Chairman, Nzuko Umunna Handshake Across Nigeria Planning Committee, Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu stated that eminent lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome will deliver the keynote on the theme: “Building bridges for a new Nigeria,” while the guest speakers are Dr Hakeem Baba Ahmed, spokesman of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Dr Regina Amadi Njoku, Sen. Shehu Sani and Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of the Yoruba Nation.

The information further stated that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ adu Abubakar, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu, Chairman, South East Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife, and Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Obi of Onitsha, are royal fathers of the day.

According to the organisers, the “Handshake Across Nigeria” project is dedicated to expanding friendships and cementing bonds between Ndigbo and other nationalities of Nigeria.
