 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Suspected Cultist Shot 3 Persons Dead, Kidnap 2 In Ahoada Community


Gunmen suspected to be cultists on Wednesday (April 12,2023) invaded Ubeta community in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State and killed three persons .


The killing comes barely seventy two hours after two Shop owners, Chimezie Nagbo and one other was kidnapped in the community on Monday (April,10,2023).


Chief Million Jonathan, Paramount Ruler of Ubeta community in a telephone interview with our reporter confirmed the incidents.


Chief Jonathan disclosed that not all the three persons killed are cultists. He explained that the two shop owners who were kidnapped are neighbours and up till Thursday (April 13,2023) the kidnappers are yet to make contact with the community or family members of their victims.


Chief Jonathan claimed that the incident has been happening for months now with Intervention of the Government. He disclosed that many natives have deserted the community .


The Paramount Ruler of Ubeta community stated that some of the Youth perpetrating the act sworn an oath before now but they are surprised that some of them(Youth) went back to their old ways.


He maintained that the community is willing to train any of the warring Youth in skill acquisition if the person shuns criminality while calling on the Government to come to their aide.


He however said, he has not personally reported the latest incidents to the Police but sent someone to do so at Porthacourt.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police command, SP Grace Iringe Koko when contacted said no official report has been made to the Police on the incident.
