Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive. Palesa Malatji, a 17-year-old South African student has been brutally raped and murdered while coming back from extra classes in Gauteng where her school is located.
MEC for Education in Gauteng Matome Chiloane is due to pay a visit to the school and family of now-deceased Palesa Malatji. She was a matric student at Ntsako Secondary School in Soshanguve, Tshwane. The visit is scheduled to hold on Monday, May 29, 2023.The sad incident is said to have occurred on Thursday, May 25, 2023.According to Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona, the student left school in the afternoon after attending additional lessons and walked back home.She did not come home, and her family began looking for her at the school, but to no effect. Her corpse was, however, discovered sexually abused adjacent to Echibini Secondary School in Soshanguve on Friday, May 26, 2023.Matome Chiloane, MEC for Education, expressed that they are profoundly saddened by the incidence of this heinous act on one of their students.We wish to extend our sincerest condolences to the family and school community. We will be dispatching our Psycho-Social Support to the school and family. We call upon the police to urgently arrest the perpetrators of this unspeakable crime,” he said.
