 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ACTDA Installs Solar Street Lights In Parts Of Awka



Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA,) has installed eighty units of solar-powered street lights in some parts of Agulu Awka, in Awka South Local Government Area.

Speaking to the ABS on the initiative, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA, Mr. Ossy Onuko said that the light which was donated by a philanthropist, Chief Emmanuel Udezue - Okeatu, will not only enhance the aesthetic look of the area, boost security but will also entrench nightlife which will increase the economic base of Anambra state.

Mr. Onuko maintained that the gesture is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration initiative of building a liveable and prosperous homeland, where people can transact their legitimate business at all times and enjoy themselves at any given time.

The ACTDA boss commended the donor for his benevolence and love for humanity, and disclosed that the agency is ready to partner any individual or group of people who have meaningful ideas or contributions towards building a better Anambra, while encouraging other well-meaning individuals to emulate the donor and give in support of their various communities

Mr. Onuko urged the people of Agulu Awka to own and protect the lights and other government facilities in the area from vandals, as the lights and its installations cost a lot of money.

He further assured that ACTDA will continue to live up to the mandate establishing it and warned those displaying their goods and wares along the roads to desist or face the full wrath of the law.
