 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. AFCON U-17: Nigeria Beat South Africa In 5-Goal Thriller, Advance To Next Stage

Nigeria’s U-17 team on Saturday defeated their South Africa opponent in a 5-goal thriller at the ongoing African Cup of Nations for the under 17 team (AFCON U-17) to enter the quarter final stage of the competition.

In a game that was crucial to both teams, Vicky Mkhawana broke the deadlock to give the Amajimbos the lead 6 minutes into the game. The Golden Eaglets responded in the 34th minute through Charles Agada.

The South Africans took the lead again just before halftime in the 45th minute through a finishing by Mabena, but the Eaglets restored parity in the first minute of the second half through Light Eke.

Idris Abdullahi fired the young lads into the next stage of the competition taking place in Algeria when he scored a stunning goal in the 64th minute, and the game ended 3-2 in favour of Nigeria.

Nigeria now seats second in the group B with 6 points, same with the group leaders Morocco that’s ahead of them based on head-to-head principle haven been beaten by the Atlas Lions in their second group game.

South Africa is 3rd in the group but will have to wait patiently and pray for either a Burkina Faso victory or a Cameroon victory by multiple goals in Sunday’s Group C finale, while Zambia has been eliminated from the tournament despite their 2-1 defeat of South Africa.
