 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Anambra Assembly appoints Pete Ibida as new Majority Leader, others as Chief Whip, Deputy Chief Whip

The Anambra State House of Assembly has appointed Mr. Pete Ibida, Mrs. Bravery Nkemdiche-Ikpeazu and Mr. Chiekwu Arthur Ifeanyi as its new Majority Leader, Chief Whip and the Deputy Chief Whip respectively.

This followed a Communiqué sent by the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Caucus of the State 7th Assembly, read during plenary by the Speaker, Mr. Uche Okafor and confirmed by the entire House on May 11.

According to Speaker who presided over the plenary, APGA Caucus of the Anambra State House of Assembly, after their meeting on Thursday morning agreed, nominated and forwarded the following persons for the post of Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Pete Ibida representing Njikoka II Constituency.

"Others are Bravery Nkemdiche-Ikpeazu representing Onitsha South II Constituency and Chiekwu Arthur Ifeanyi representing Idemili North Constituency. 

"Any other position in the Principal Office remains the same," he pointed out.

The Speaker congratulated the newly appointed Principal Officers of the State Assembly on their new elevation to office.

Mr. Ibida until the present position was the Chief Whip of the House while Mrs. Bravery Nkemdiche-Ikpeazu was the Deputy Chief Whip.

It could be noted that the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Emeka Aforka representing Orumba North had been on acting capacity since the demise of the former Majority Leader, Mr. Nnamdi G. Okafor.

This new position has closed the lacuna created by the death of the former majority leader, Okafor.

Responding on behalf of the newly appointed Principal Officers, Mr. Ibida expressed appreciation to the House for the new positions given to them.

Ibida assured the Speaker and his colleagues that they would live up to expectations of the governor, the leadership of the party (APGA), the House and the people of the state.

While the Minority Leader of the House, Mr. Onyebuchi Offor described the new positions as the good thing that had been delayed for a long time said that on behalf of the minority group, that they accepted the new positions in good faith. (MOI)
