Nigeria in peril, needs collective salvation, says Tambuwal at 60 Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, on Saturday, warned that Nigeria is in grave danger and urgently needs national salvation, calling on citizens across political, ethnic and religious divides to unite and rescue the country from its current trajectory. Tambuwal spoke at a high-profile colloquium organised in Abuja to mark his 60th birthday, an event that brought together former Presidents, vice presidents, political leaders and statesmen, who used the occasion to reflect on the state of Nigeria’s democracy and the future of governance. Lamenting the state of the nation, Tambuwal said Nigeria has fallen far short of the hopes and expectations that accompanied the return to democratic rule. He noted that many of the founding figures of the country’s democracy, both living and deceased, would be deeply unhappy with prevailing realities. “This is not w...

Arewa Group Insists Tinubu Didn’t Win Presidential Poll, Shouldn’t Be Sworn-in

May 17, 2023

A group under the aegis of Arewa Christians and Indigenous Pastors Association (ACIPA), has continued to disagree with the announcement of Bola Tinubu as the President-elect, saying that strong evidence shows that the All Progressive Congress (APC), and Tinubu lost the Presidential election.

ACIPA questioned the continuous erosion of truth in the country, saying that the fabric of the nation is continually being destroyed by corrupt politicians who only seek to fill their pockets.

“We have watched over the years as our values and heritage have been compromised and eroded, thus affecting the fabrics of our institutions and existence”, Chairman of ACIPA, Rev. Luke Shehu, said during a press briefing held at AREWA House Kaduna State on Tuesday.

“The graveyard silence that welcomed the controversial announcement of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as winner speaks volume to the shame of both the desperate politicians as well as the INEC Chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu who have more to explain to Nigerians and the tribunal”, Shehu continued.

According to him: “INEC excuses and lies to Nigerians by the Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu are unacceptable and we strongly believe cannot be validated by the Presidential election petition tribunal.

“While Nigeria and INEC in particular have become the laughing stock of nations, the circus of shameless corruption that was exposed after the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner illegally announced Sen. Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed of APC as winner speaks volume of what transpired in Nasarawa, Kaduna, Gombe and a host of other States, both at the Governorship and Senatorial elections in most cases.

“Truth is lacking just as there is near absence of patriotism and nationalism. Very few elder-statements including religious leaders dare speak against evil and injustice in public governance as well as abnormalities and impunity by government officials holding public trust. In clear terms, this is because the corrupt politicians whose claim to power at our collective detriment and peril do so with spite because they have come to believe that everyone has a price.

“Nigeria is at the precipice, needing an immediate redemption and restoration. Nigerians and particularly the youths have not only been shortchanged from the gains of democracy but have been shortchanged at the recent polls.

“The Presidential election result as announced by INEC is questionable without recourse to either the Constitution or the guidelines of INEC transmission of election results from Polling units to IREV smacks off unanswered questions and complicity that many are smiling to banks or personal vaults while justice and our destiny is trampled upon”, Shehu said
