 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. KANO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PASSED 'THE CHILD PROTECTION BILL 2023 '.(PHOTO).

Kano state house of assembly (KNHA), has passed the kano state child protection bill 2023.

This was sequel to deliberations in the committee of the whole house, and 3rd reading of the bill by the clerk, Alhaji Garba Bako Gezawa during today’s plenary session, presided over by the deputy speaker Alhaji Kabiru Hassan Dashi.

While presenting the bill, the deputy majority leader, Alhaji Magaji Dahiru Zarewa stressed that, the bill would go a long way in protecting children aginst all forms of molestation, as well as ensuring that, they enjoy free and compulsory basic education.
He stressed that, the law provides stiffer sanctions for perpetrators of rape and other criminal activities aimed at oppression under age children.

After careful deliberations, the lawmakers adopted the 3rd reading and passed the bill.

Reacting,Hajiya Mero Bello of girls education partnership (GEP), called for speedy assent to the bill.

She described the passage as a great milestone which they had advocated for many years.

” Am here with representatives from NATIP, FOMWAN and other civil society organizations, we are appealing to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to assent as soon as possible”
Other bills passed by the assembly include, kano state roads fund (SRF) 2023, and Kano state rural access roads agency bill (KARARA), 2023.

In another development, KNHA has confirmed the appointment of Professor Adamu Ibrahim Yakasai, as chairman management board of Abdullahi Wase teaching hospital.

Earlier, a member of the house standing committee on health, Alhaji Magaji Dahiru Zarewa presented a report, on the screenning of the nominee.

The report recommended the confirmation of Professor Adamu, due to his wealth of experience, who doubles as the provost college of health sciences, Bayero university Kano (BUK).

The house adjourned it’s sitting to monday 5th June 2023, in a motion filed by the majority leader Alhaji Labaran Abdul Madari.
