 An Alabama woman, Towana Looney, made headlines by living with a genetically modified pig kidney for a record 130 days before her body began rejecting it.  The organ was removed on April 4 at NYU Langone Health. Looney has since returned home to Gadsden, Alabama, and is back on dialysis. Despite the outcome, she expressed gratitude for being part of this groundbreaking xenotransplantation research, hoping her experience will help others battling kidney disease. This experiment is part of a broader effort to address the U.S. organ shortage, where over 100,000 people await transplants. Scientists are genetically modifying pig organs to make them more compatible with humans. Looney’s case is notable because, unlike earlier xenotransplant patients who were critically ill, she was healthier, allowing for a longer observation period. Love Scam: Man Convicted for Impersonation in Kaduna

Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kaduna, on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 convicted and sentenced one Bature Japhet to two years imprisonment on a one count charge bordering on romance scam.

The suspect was arrested by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, around Karji area, in Kaduna state following intelligence on his alleged internet fraud-related activities.

The one count charge reads: “that you, Bature Japhet (aka JOHNMIKE430) on or about the 18th of April, 2023 at Karji, Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court falsely presented yourself as JOHNMIKE430 and in such assumed character Impersonated one JOHNMIKE430 (a US citizen) via your Gmail binanceapphelp@gmail.com account and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017”.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

Justice Khobo convicted and sentenced him to two years imprisonment or a fine of N150,000.

He is to also forfeit an Apple iPhone XR to the Federal Government of NiNigeria.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
