 Saraki Slams Okowa’s Defection to APC, Urges PDP to Rebuild as Strong Opposition Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has expressed shock and disappointment over the defection of Ifeanyi Okowa, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 vice-presidential candidate and former Delta State governor, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Okowa, alongside current Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, and other top state officials, switched allegiance to the APC on Monday, a move Saraki described as “unbecoming and unprecedented.” In a statement, Saraki, a former Kwara State governor, criticized Okowa’s defection, arguing that it reflects a “collapse of leadership values” and should not be justified by claims of external pressure. “It is simply a sign of how low we have sunk as a polity,” he said, emphasizing the need to strengthen institutions over individuals. MINISTRY OF EDUCATION IN RIVERS STATE SUSPENDS PRINCIPAL OVER ALLEGED WASSCE RACKETEERING


The Rivers State Ministry of Education says it has suspended the Principal of Community Secondary School, Borokiri, Port Harcourt over alleged West African Senior Secondary School (WASSCE) Examination fee racketeering.

Commissioner for Education, Professor Chinedu Mmom made the disclosure on Wednesday, 17th, May, 2023 to Journalists shortly after parents of students of the school who were excluded from writing the exams visited his office. Professor Mmom said he has also deployed another Principal to resume in the school immediately.

According to the Education Commissioner, he said the Principal agreed in the presence of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Borokiri Police Division that he short-changed some students of the school for external candidates he collected money from. Professor Mmom also revealed that he has urged the DPO to detain the Principal for investigation.

Recall that some parents in a protest had stormed the school in the early hours of Wednesday, 17th of May, 2023 demanding to know the reason their children who registered for the exams were prevented from writing the exams.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
