 [ASSEN SAPS MEMBERS ASSIST WOMAN IN GIVING BIRTH AT POLICE STATION] Assen SAPS members assisted a female suspect who went into labour at the police station on Thursday, 8 October 2026, helping her deliver a healthy baby girl before she and the newborn were taken to a medical facility. According to reports, members were on duty at Assen SAPS under the command of Sergeant Chidi, when they received a telephone call regarding the arrest of a female suspect at Msholozi informal settlement in Kameeldrift. Constable Olivier and Constable Mokhutshoane responded to the call and arrested the suspect, who was reportedly in good health and had no visible injuries at the time of the arrest. She was subsequently taken to Assen SAPS. While at the police station, the suspect began experiencing labour pains and an ambulance was immediatly summond. MINISTRY OF EDUCATION IN RIVERS STATE SUSPENDS PRINCIPAL OVER ALLEGED WASSCE RACKETEERING


The Rivers State Ministry of Education says it has suspended the Principal of Community Secondary School, Borokiri, Port Harcourt over alleged West African Senior Secondary School (WASSCE) Examination fee racketeering.

Commissioner for Education, Professor Chinedu Mmom made the disclosure on Wednesday, 17th, May, 2023 to Journalists shortly after parents of students of the school who were excluded from writing the exams visited his office. Professor Mmom said he has also deployed another Principal to resume in the school immediately.

According to the Education Commissioner, he said the Principal agreed in the presence of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Borokiri Police Division that he short-changed some students of the school for external candidates he collected money from. Professor Mmom also revealed that he has urged the DPO to detain the Principal for investigation.

Recall that some parents in a protest had stormed the school in the early hours of Wednesday, 17th of May, 2023 demanding to know the reason their children who registered for the exams were prevented from writing the exams.
