 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. MINISTRY OF EDUCATION IN RIVERS STATE SUSPENDS PRINCIPAL OVER ALLEGED WASSCE RACKETEERING


The Rivers State Ministry of Education says it has suspended the Principal of Community Secondary School, Borokiri, Port Harcourt over alleged West African Senior Secondary School (WASSCE) Examination fee racketeering.

Commissioner for Education, Professor Chinedu Mmom made the disclosure on Wednesday, 17th, May, 2023 to Journalists shortly after parents of students of the school who were excluded from writing the exams visited his office. Professor Mmom said he has also deployed another Principal to resume in the school immediately.

According to the Education Commissioner, he said the Principal agreed in the presence of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Borokiri Police Division that he short-changed some students of the school for external candidates he collected money from. Professor Mmom also revealed that he has urged the DPO to detain the Principal for investigation.

Recall that some parents in a protest had stormed the school in the early hours of Wednesday, 17th of May, 2023 demanding to know the reason their children who registered for the exams were prevented from writing the exams.
