 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Nigerian Army announces recruitment results, urges applicants to check portal

The Nigerian Army has urged applicants who applied for the 85 Regular Recruits Intake in 2023 to visit its portal to check the list of shortlisted candidates.


The Army made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, stating that the state recruitment screening exercise is scheduled to commence from May 8–21, 2023, in all 36 states and in Abuja.


The Nigerian Army also published the list of documents that shortlisted candidates must report with during their respective states of origin for the screening exercise.


Shortlisted applicants must come with their original copies of WASCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB certificates in a file jacket, Printed Bank Verification Number (BVN) certificate authenticated by a bank.


Shortlisted applicants must come with their valid birth certificate as endorsed by the National Population Commission, hospital, Local Government Council of birth, or valid age declaration.


Shortlisted applicants must come with a valid certificate of state of origin, WASCE/ GCE/NECO/NABTEB online scratch card. Completed copies of the printouts from the portal, including guarantor forms.”


The Nigerian Army also added that candidates should bring two pairs each of plain white T-shirts and blue shorts, a pair each of white canvas and white socks, and a Trade Test / City Guild Certificate.


The force also urged candidates that any alteration on their documents would render them invalid and eventually lead to disqualification, and the use of electronic, mobile, and recording devices would not be allowed throughout the duration of the exercise.


“A high standard of discipline is expected from all candidates. Candidates who violate any instruction during the Recruitment Screening Exercise would be disqualified.”
