 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. NYCN Condemns Attack On Karu Communities, Wants Perpetrators Fished Out

The Nasarawa State Chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has condemned the recent attack on three communities in Karu Local Government Area of the State. 

In a statement issued by its Chairman, Comrade Jaafar Muhammad Loko on Sunday, the apex youth body urged the country's security agencies to investigate and fish out the perpetrators of the act. 

Loko stated that every life is sacred and must be protected as one of the primary functions of government at all levels.

He however lauded the state government for its swift response that has curtailed the situation and restored normalcy to the affected communities. 

“The situation is uncalled for and we described it as calculated attempt to truncate the peace we are enjoying in the state as well as to create another political tension while the preparations for the inauguration of new administration is at the advanced level.

“We called on the teaming youths of our dear state to continue to remain law-abiding, peace ambassadors, to also provide security with relevant intelligence and never allow to be used as agents of destruction and chaos as no society develop in an atmosphere of rancour and instability. 

“As the most populated segment of society, young people are prone to be victims of circumstances of this nature and mostly affected by every crisis.

“Nasarawa State belongs to all of us and we must continue to advocate for peaceful coexistence, unity and Development,” the statement reads further. 

Unknown gunmen suspected to be fulani herdsmen had on Thursday May 11 invaded Takalafia, Gwanja and Angwan Bege communities where they killed the pastor in-charge of the community's Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev. Daniel Danbeki and other residents. 

Scores of other residents also sustained various degrees of injuries and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed during the attack which lasted till early hours of Friday May 12, 2023.
