 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. POLICE RESCUES 10 KIDNAPPED VICTIMS IN ZAMFARA. (PHOTO).



Zamfara State Police Command has assured it’s commitment to restore normalcy in the State and to rescue all kidnapped victims and reunite them with their families.

The state commissioner of Police CP Muhammad Bunu gave the assurance in a statement issued to newsmen in Gusau the state capital by the command’s public relations officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar.

CP Bunu said the Police Tactical Operatives while on search and rescue operations along Gusami Forest in Birnin magaji local government area acted on intelligence reports and rescued ten persons kidnapped from Gidan Gobirawa village of Kaura Namoda local government.

The victims, while undergoing interview by the commissioner of police said that, they had been in Captivity since May 7th, 2023 when the bandit took them to unknown destination and spent ten days in captivity.

The rescued victims were checked by the police medical doctor, debriefed and handed over to their respective families.

Meanwhile the Command under the leadership of CP Mohammed Bunu is appealing to the general public to continue supporting the police by giving timely and credible information with a view to restore normalcy in the state and rescue other kidnap victims.
