The prime suspect who used a bow and arrow to kill Senior Sergeant Ludwig Dondo on Monday, May 1, is still at large.

Dondo was struck with an arrow when he went to the ATS settlement with his colleagues from the NCD Dog Unit to arrest some suspects involved in smuggling cannabis.

ACP Wagambie said three other suspects were brought in by Central police after community leaders at ATS gathered them at 7am this morning.

Mr Wagambie is calling on the community at ATS to find and deliver the prime suspect to police. He said Sergeant Dondo was only performing his job like every other policeman and policewoman in the city, and he did not deserve to die in such cruel circumstances.

“I condemn those responsible for the death of my policeman and I am calling on the community at ATS to stand up together and find the prime suspect responsible for this heinous crime.

“You must give him to me, so he can face the law,” the Commander said today.

ACP Wagambie said the NCD Homicide unit is investigating the murder and they will question the three suspects who are now in police custody.

Meanwhile, late Senior Sergeant Dondo`s wife Miriam and her children were shocked when news of their father's death reached them.

Miriam, who is employed with the Department of Justice and Attorney General, said she was on lunch break when a policeman told her that her husband was shot with a spear and was taken to the Port Moresby General Hospital Emergency Ward. She rushed to the hospital only to be told that her husband had died.

Their daughter, Ludwina, also recalled speaking with her father before he left for work.

“My dad carried my son and asked if I had washed his school uniform. He loved his grandson so passionately,” Ludwina said amid tears of grief.

The Dondo family is in a state of shock, and still coming to terms with the reality of this tragic incident.
