 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8. Resident Doctors Suspend Strike

The leadership of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its one-week warning strike which it embarked upon on Wednesday, May 17.

President of the association, Dr. Emeka Orji, told Channels Television via a telephone conversation that the association suspended the action for two weeks after reaching some agreement with the government on Friday.

He, however, stated that the doctors will meet again on the second day of June this year to review progress made with the agreement signed after which the association will decide on their next line of action.

YYou would recall it was earlier reported that the resident doctors and the Federal Government have reached an agreement over the five-day warning strike embarked upon by the association.

On May 17,  NARD began a five-day warning strike to press home its demands after a 14-day ultimatum to the government lapsed.

The doctors are demanding, among other things, the payment of all salary arrears for their members as well as the immediate upgrade of infrastructure in public hospitals.
