 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Police Raids Diobu Waterfronts, Arrest 55 Suspected Cultist



The Rivers State Police command in the wee hours of Monday and Tuesday raided some waterfront residences in Mile 1 and Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt suspected to be harbouring cultists and arrested about fifty-five suspects, we learnt.


A resident of the area informed our reporter that combined team of personnel drawn from Anti-Cultism, Octopus Strike Force, Mile 1 Police and Azikiwe Police stations all participated in the raid .


The raid comes five days after the warring cult groups in Diobu reportedly agreed to a peace deal last Wednesday and declared cease fire in cult war that claimed some lives.


The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police command, SP Grace Iringe Koko in an interview with our reporter confirmed the raid and arrest of suspects by the Police.


SP Koko however, did not disclose the exact number of persons who were arrested during the raid.


The Police image maker stated that the raid is in connection with the recent cult clashes in the area while adding that the arrested suspects are being profiled and any one found culpable will be arraigned in court at the end of investigation
