 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Suspected Terrorist Blows Up Self To Evade Arrest From Security Operatives

A suspected terrorist has killed himself by detonating an improvised explosive device (IED) as he tried to escape from security operatives in Kaduna State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at Keke community in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna, Muhammed Jalige, confirmed the development but said he is yet to receive full details of the incident from the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Millennium City.

According to a report by Channels Television, the security agencies trailed him to an apartment in the Keke community in Chikun local government where he has been hiding after monitoring him for some time as he had been under their radar.

The source further disclosed that a combined team of policemen, personnel of the Department of State Security Services, and soldiers surrounded the apartment and engaged the suspect in a gun battle.

But sensing that the security operatives were closing in on him, the suspected terrorist blew himself up with an improvised explosive device.

An AK-47 rifle was said to have been recovered inside the man’s apartment, along with two other live explosive devices, that were later safely detonated by the anti-bomb squad of the Kaduna State Police Command.

Meanwhile, the mutilated body of the man was later evacuated from the scene by security operatives who also took his wife and children away for further investigation.
