Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive. BENUE ASSEMBLY ANNOUNCES PARTY LEADERSHIP POSITIONS.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Benue State Chapter has announced the appointment of the member representing Mbagwa State Constituency (Ushongo II) Hon. Saater Tiseer as the Majority Leader of the 10th Assembly.

Announcing the party positions on the floor of the Assembly, the Speaker, Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh named Mr Cyril Ekong of Oju II Constituency as the Deputy Majority Leader, while the Majority Chief Whip is Dr Yanmar Ortese from Guma 1 Constituency with Mr Peter Ipusu of Katsina-Ala West Constituency as the Deputy Chief Whip.

The Speaker also announced Mr Audu Michael of Adoka/Ugboju Constituency as the Minority Leader while Barr. William Ortyom of Guma II Constituency is now the Minority Whip of the Assembly.

The Speaker who congratulated them for the confidence reposed in them by their political parties also charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by their parties.

He said he and the Deputy Speaker were disposed to working with all of them in the overall interest of the State Legislature and Benue at large.

Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr Akume’s Raphael, in a statement, said the House was later adjourned to the 4th of July, 2023, to enable members to proceed with the Eid-el-Kabir Sallah celebration and wished the Muslim faithful and people of the state a happy celebration.
