 Atiku pledges scholarship to viral Niger teen miner Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday said his “heart breaks” each time he watches a viral video of a teenage artisanal miner, Yusuf Aliyu, speaking at a mining site in Niger State after the deaths of 37 miners in the state. Atiku, in a statement posted on his X handle, said he was prepared to support the boy’s education, describing him as a child whose intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than by working at a mining site. “I have watched Yusuf Aliyu’s video repeatedly, and each time, my heart breaks. A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty. “I cannot look at him and see an ‘illegal miner.’ I see a Nigerian child failed by the country that should have protected him. Court Remands Alleged Ritualist Father To Prison Custody In Awka.

The Chief Magistrate of the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka, Genevieve Osakwe has remanded one Mr. Sunday Ezeh for attempted murder and inflicting injuries on his 17 year old daughter.

Mr. Ezeh a native of Ara village Nise in Awka South local government area of the state was arraigned before the Magistrate court on Wednesday, 21st June, 2023.

The Chief Magistrate Osakwe mandated that the case be transmitted to the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence High court in Awka for hearing.

Recall that Mr. Ezeh is the father of the rescued 17 year old who is currently recuperating after an emergency head surgery at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Awka.

The 17 year old who was rescued by the Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo though still at the state teaching hospital,is responding to treatments
