 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  GOC 8 DIVISION PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO GOVERNOR OF SOKOTO STATE SAYS INSECURITY WILL BE DEFEATED SOON



The General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Joint Taskforce North West Operation HADARIN DAJI Major General Godwin Micheal Mutkut in Sokoto, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Sokoto State His Excellency Dr Aliyu Ahmed. 


In his remarks during the visit, the GOC stated that the visit was to felicitate with the Governor who was recently sworn in following his victory in the recently concluded general elections. He also stated that the visit was also to discuss the issues of insecurity, especially bandit's attacks which he said is one  of the major security challenges bedeviling the state 


The GOC while sympathizing with the Governor and victims of recent bandit attacks in one of the communities of the state avered that the Joint Taskforce under his command will deploy everything at its disposal to ensure that insecurity is reduced to the lowest ebb in the state. He assured the Governor that the perpetrators of the dastardly acts will be brought to book to serve as deterrence.


In his response, the Governor who praised the Nigerian Army for its professional conduct during and after the elections assured the GOC of his government's willingness to support the Division in all areas of need especially where it affects logistics. The Governor reiterated his stance on doing everything humanly possible to crush insecurity in Sokoto State which he said was one of his 9-point agenda.


The GOC was accompanied by the Chief of Staff Brig Gen SS Ahmed, Garrison Commander Brig Gen T Ahmed and Formation Commanders.
