 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023. MAKINDE APPOINTS 9 AIDES FOR DEPUTY GOVERNOR 


Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of nine aides for the office of the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal.

The newly appointed aides to the Deputy Governor as contained in a letter signed by the Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, are:

Ajagbe Yusuf Olatunji: SA (Political)
Sakariyah Kunle Sanni: SA (Administration)
Hassan Ajibade: SA (Legal)
Omoetan Omolere: SA (Print Media)
Badmus Adesola: SA (Domestic)
Oyedeji Ahmed: SA (Public Affairs)
Alhaji Nasiru Ayinde: SA (Projects)
Ajibade Waheed Ademola: SA (Media Online)
Mutalib Adewale: Personal Assistant

The Governor also approved the appointment of Miss Adetola Adedibu as Special Assistant to the Governor on Liaison Office Abuja.

The Governor congratulated the new appointees and urged them to see their appointment as a call to service.

He implored them to discharge their duties with utmost loyalty and all sense of responsibility.
