 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. I Will Appoint 80% Youths - Governor Agbu

Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State says eighty percent of his Commissioners will be young people to ensure positive results.

The Governor made the declaration during an interaction with newsmen at the Government House Jalingo. 

He said the appointments he made so far of Barrister Gebon Timothy Kataps as SSG and Mr. Jeji Williams as Chief of Staff was for them to be a guide to the young Commissioners that are coming soon because of their wealth of experience and maturity.

The Governor explained that he had carried out wide consultation in the selection of the Commissioner to carry everyone along.

"I just want to carry people along otherwise, I can roll out my Commissioners today but before the end of June everything will be put in place," he revealed.

Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas emphasized that his desire for quality representation and good governance for the state is not negotiable and ensured that his administration will boost the infrastructural development with the view to place the state among the contending states of the federation.

He also emphasized prioritizing youth empowerment and women's inclusiveness in governance by appointing competent ones among them  

"Their appointments will be based on merit and their ability to deliver high-quality service for the benefit of Taraba State. Our administration will be people's centered and all policies will be based on the identified needs of the masses," he emphasized.

Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas further stated that the present government would audit the handover notes and other records to identify mistakes of the past administration and correct wrongs if any.

The Governor, however, declared a state of emergency on education and described the situation of Primary and Secondary Schools in the state as pathetic and unacceptable.

"We are going to take urgent measures to tackle the situation of our schools expediently. Agbu promised.
