  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed a viral claim circulating on social media about the introduction of new ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 banknotes, labeling it as fake news. The claim, which included fabricated images of the supposed new denominations featuring Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, falsely stated that the new notes would enter circulation from May 1, 2025. In a statement on its verified Facebook account, the CBN clarified that the content is not from the bank and directed the public to its official website, (www.cbn.gov.ng), for authentic information. The bank warned against spreading misinformation regarding monetary policies and urged Nigerians to rely only on official statements from its verified channels. The CBN reaffirmed that any major policy decision, including the introduction of new banknotes, would be announced through its official platforms. NIGERIA UNDER-20 WOMEN FOOTBALL TEAM TO FACE BURUNDI IN THE SECOND ROUND OF THE 2024 FIFA UNDER-20 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS.(PHOTO).

Nigeria’s national under-20 women’s football team have been drawn to face Burundi in the second round of the 2024 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

 

The draw was officially conducted by the Confederation of African Football in Cairo, Egypt.

 

Equatorial Guinea will face Libya, Togo will take on Guinea Bissau, and Mauritius will face off against Chad.

 

The winners from this round will then move on to the second round of the qualifiers.

 

In this round, Ethiopia will take on the winners of the Equatorial Guinea and Libya pairing, while Senegal will face off with Mali.

Nigeria, the semi-finalists at the last edition of competition, will face Burundi while Ghana awaits the winners of the clash between Togo and Guinea Bissau.

 

The matches will take place between September 1 and September 10. While second qualifying round of matches will take place between Oct. 6 and Oct. 15, with the winners heading to the third round of qualifiers scheduled for Nov. 12 to Nov. 19.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
