 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. OYO ASSEMBLY REMOVES IREPO LG CHAIRMAN OVER ALLEGED MISAPPROPRIATION OF FUNDS


The Oyo state house of Assembly has removed the Chairman of Irepo Local Government, Kisi, Mr. Lateef Adediran having been found culpable of diverting public funds.

BCOS house of Assembly Correspondent, Bode Akinjola reports that the removal was sequel to the investigations conducted on the allegation levelled against him via the Auditor-General for Local Government.

Presenting the joint committee report on the floor of the house on Thursday, Hon. Akeem Mustapha stated that  Mr. Lateef  Adediran having been found culpable of the offence on the allegation of diverting public funds meant for the purchase of Toyota Camry 2016 model to purchase Lexus for his office without approval and purchasing of substandard Toyota corolla for the Office of the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA),  his action has betrayed public trust, hence he should be removed from office as the Executive Chairman, Irepo Local Government pursuant to section 21 of the Local Government Law, 2001(as amended).

The report directed   the Executive Arm of Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters and the Ministry of  Justice  to ensure that Mr. Lateef Sulaiman Adediran refunds almost 5 million naira to the coffers of Irepo Local Government which he embezzled.
