President Bola Tinubu has identified the creative economy as a pivotal element of his administration’s economic diversification agenda, reaffirming his commitment to positioning Nigeria’s creative sector as a driving force for global influence. The President stated this at the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja. President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said the carnival reaffirms the essence of who Nigerians are—”a people of culture, a people of art, a people of colour, and a people of shared values”. In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to The President on Media & Communications, Office of The Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, under the theme, “Carnival of Renewed Hope: A Pledge to My Country”, the event showcased performances from across Nigeria and beyond, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to cultural diplomacy. Subsidy: Oil Marketers To Donate 100 Buses

Major oil marketers are to donate about 100 50-seater buses, worth N10 billion, to support the government’s subsidy removal intervention.

The marketers made this known in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

At a news briefing, Chairperson of the delegation, Dame Winifred Akpani, expressed the unflinching support of the marketers to fuel subsidy removal, arguing that it was long-over-due.

She observed that the move, although painful and stressful, would unleash the potential of Nigeria, engender free-market economy, entice foreign investors, ensure security as well as create jobs and wealth.

She also voiced the hope that other organisations would emulate their gesture to urgently cushion the effect of the subsidy withdrawal on the masses.

Dame Akpani urged Nigerians to be patient and understand the essence of the subsidy removal, as the government had geared up efforts to ameliorate the situation created by the policy.

In the alternative, she explained that the policy of reversion of petrol vehicles to consume Natural Compressed Gas (CNG) would be implemented to reduce the cost of living.

The delegation was led to the President by Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.
